As a local titleholder, I
have been very involved with promoting and supporting my platform, “Stay Aware,
Stay Safe”. April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, which coincides with my
platform. I planned an event, "A Cup of Prevention" for Sexual
Assault Awareness Month, hosted by the Java House Cafe in Middletown, DE. The
beneficiary of this event was Contact Lifeline, which is Delaware’s resource
for individuals in crisis. In addition to helping individuals who are dealing
with sexual assault, Contact Lifeline does a lot of outreach to educate adults
and teens on safe and respectful relationships and offers a 24 hour crisis
helpline to aid in suicide prevention or to offer resources to the public. It
is a non-profit organization that is run by volunteers. I volunteered for Contact
Lifeline’s crisis helpline in college, so I am very aware of the valuable
resources this organization offers. I was happy to contribute towards an
organization that does so much for the Delaware community.
During the “A Cup of
Prevention” event we offered a free coffee tasting at the Java House Cafe and
collected donations for Contact Lifeline. We also distributed information on
the different resources that Contact Lifeline has to offer. I was also honored
that Tina Schaeffer, the Executive Director of Contact Lifeline, was there to
join me and support this event. We had a great time drinking coffee to benefit
a fantastic Delaware non-profit organization. My new favorite brew is the Red
Velvet Coffee..yum! Thank you to Mark and Cleo of the Java House Cafe for your
generosity and to all those who came out and donated!!
