I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer for the
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which is a Children’s Miracle Network
hospital. I had so much fun with a Princess Party that I coordinated with a
fantastic group of ladies, which included Tierra Fair: Miss Brandywine 2012,
Amanda Debus: Miss Southern Delaware 2012, and Alix Gardner: Miss Central
Delaware 2012.

The Princess Party concluded “Sibling Week” at the Children’s
Hospital of Philadelphia. “Sibling Week” celebrated the awesome siblings of the
children staying at the hospital. It was so rewarding to bring smiles to the
girls’ faces, helping them create their own crowns and talking to them about
school, their families, and their plans for the future. The parents I met were
so appreciative of us spending time with their children, and even though many
were tired from being at the hospital for the majority of the day, they stayed
for the activity, so their girls could have a “Princess Experience”. I was
deeply touched by one of the mothers who thanked me for spending time with her
little girl. They have been in and out of the hospital for their one daughter
who has leukemia and it has been a trying time for the other children. She
thanked me for taking time to make her daughter feel special and taking her
mind off of her sister’s medical situation, and it truly made my day. I really
enjoyed my time working with each little girl and helping to brighten their
day.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia offers so many
resources for the children and their families. We were situated next to the
radio station in the hospital, which is operated by volunteers and interns.
Every day the radio station broadcasts shows which can be seen in the patient’s
rooms and they have activities that the kids can participate in, including game
shows, karaoke, and being guest broadcasters themselves! It was very impressive
and inspiring to see all the resources that this hospital provides. Thank you
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for this amazing opportunity…I hope to be
back again soon!
