Today was an exciting day for Mrs. McKay's, Ms. Williams' and Ms. Smith's kindergarten class at Lakewood Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland because they were visited by two pageant queens!
Not only wastoday exciting for the 28 kids, but the time we spent doing arts and crafts, reading, coloring and singing gave the teachers time to catch up on some work and have extra time to spend in the planning module. I never realized how important classroom visits were until today when I saw the teachers so overwhelmed about the activities that we had planned for their class. I think they expected us to just come and read a few Christmas stories then be on our merry way!
For TonyaJones (Miss Delmarva Ambassador 2012) and I, it seemed like just another day of giving back (we've known each other for over 20 years and have always be involved with community service) but it really touched us to know that we were making a difference...not just for the students but for the teachers too.
We read ACharlie Brown Christmas and T’was the Night Before the Night Before Christmas (a really great story that helps to remind us that family is what's really important at this time of the year), we personalized Christmas stockings for each kid, gave them coloring books that we made and capped off their afternoon of fun by leaving them with holiday goodie bags!
Lakewood we’ll definitely be back!
