For the last three weeks, I have been home with pneumonia. However, thanks to technology, I didn’t let this stop me from my commitment to service! During the first week I was barely able to get out of bed and I lost my voice (those of you who know me…I love to talk so this was hard). But by the second week, I was feeling better and picked up where I left off.
I spent a few days working to coordinate a Big Sister/Little Sister event with the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). On April 11, our chapter will sponsor this event and the focus will be on preparing for college. One of the major reasons why I like working with this organization is because we work with at risk girls, many of whom come from single parent households and don’t believe that things like college are in their future. In the past we have hosted similar events and hope to continue to have a positive impact on the young girls in our community.
I also spent some time working with the wonderful Becky Albini, Miss Atlantic Coast 2012, as she prepares to compete for the title of Miss. Delaware. Thanks to Skype, we were able to do mock interview sessions and we’ve been working to refine her pageant platform.
The last few weeks have been challenging but I have to say thank you to my very close circle of friends, pageant sisters and most importantly my family for helping to nurture me back to health and for being there to take over some of the ‘mommy’ duties.
April is going to be a great month and I have a number of things planned so stay tuned!
